I got a Peterson Killarney xl02 p-lip, and sadly I was set it down on a glass holder (DIY pipe holder) and it made a few marks on the finish, nothing serious. Then I went to clean it with some pipe cleaner (clean and cure), and I was using a shank brush and got a few tiny drops near the shank and it took some of the finish off. I am kind of OCD so this really makes me upset haha. Anybody else ever run into issues like this? I just feel the need to vent and hear some stories about a favorite pipe that maybe got tarnished in some way.

Well that sucks!... Ive never had an issue when cleaning as I am SUPER careful.... keeping fingers crossed now :P
as far as nicks or scratches... ive had some light scratches on a pipe or two from setting it down where I should have, nothing too serious and have always been able to buff out.

Yeah, I mean I got a few other pipes, but it just makes me mad. Sometimes I am too careful :) and make more mistakes. I'm still gonna smoke it though and cherish it, I guess it gives it more "character". At least that's what some people say..

Here's my story. Just finished making coffee cleaning up after dinner and was cleaning the pipe to load a bowl when it slipped and went right into the trash and proceeded to hit every wet, old food, coffee grounds and finally ended up on the bottom. Learned how to sanitize a pipe that day.

Sorry to hear it. I am also a bit OCD with certain things too, so I know how you feel.
It sucks, but maybe it'll help to look at it like you might a new car. An old friend of mine used to say "it's not really yours until you get your first scratch"
I recommend putting it aside and forget about it for a bit. Then come back to it once you're completely over the disappointment. You'll see the damage in a clearer state of mind and it prolly won't be nearly as bad as you feel it is right now.

Im also under the theory of it being uniquely yours now. Some day I hope to pass my pipes down. I want them to look like the keepsakes I intend them to be, not something they could find on the storeroom shelf.

Pete's finish aren't very good, they come off easily. Happens to mine as well when I was cleaning with clean and cure
FYI, Clean and Cure will take the finish off of almost anyone's pipe.

I dropped my Meerschaum on the roof a while back (I smoke on the roof where I work at night). I could have crushed a walnut with my butt cheeks.

One day at the office I had smoked my Brebbia bulldog and still had more than half a bowl left when It came time to head home. Not wanting to waste the remaining tobacco I looked across my desk for a solution and spotted the Scotch tape dispenser. In a second I pulled off a couple pieces and stuck them down across the top of the bowl in the shape of a cross.
Of course several hours went by before I remembered and when I went to remove the tape I found it pulled up most of the high gloss finish on the bulldog. :x I tried waxing and buffing but it wouldn't blend and the whole briar now needs to be stripped and redone. Oh well live and learn.

Bent Mike - that is a sad story indeed.

I got a beautiful little Pete bent apple, new, on Ebay. It had stain in the air channel & chamber. Removing it, with gin, I marred the finish a little. No problem though, I really don't care.

I dropped the Peterson Aran 05 I'm smoking now on the concrete patio earlier this year. Damn near had a heartattack. I know it's only an Aran, but it smokes really well and I like the shape a lot. Luckily all that happened to it was the rim got a slight ding in it.

If the finish can come off pretty easily with the clean & cure, I'd go ahead and take all of it off. Polish well with a soft dremel polish disc and a bar of carnauba wax. Be careful when polishing and don't touch the briar with any metal part of the tool. Comes out gorgeous. bb

by the way, a friend turned me onto a great way to clean & sanitize... use 151 rum. Sweetens the pipe and sanitizes weally well. If the pipe is super nasty, pour a little in the bowl and light it. Whooba!!!

Clean and cure is good stuff. Its cleans and cures. But yeah, it will take the finish off. I once dripped some on my stem and it messed it up. So careful. Good luck. And yeah refinished. If you can?

Yep, I have another Pete that I just have to look at and it will bleed the finish off. Shitty cheap System Standard pipes. Better off burning those 150$ in a strip club methinks. Well in the case of my 400$ Pete Mark Twain pot that burned out after 5 minutes of smoking it was a shitty expensive Pete that sucked. H well to be honest every single one of the 3 Peterson I've ever owned were crap - so your problem doesn't surprise me at all.
