These pictures were taken today on the farm I grew up on, where my mother still lives. She is 86 years old, has been around tobacco her whole life, and said this is the finest crop she has ever seen. I have to agree with her, who can disagree with Mom, in my 60 years I haven't seen any finer. This will be cut in probably three or four days and hung in the barns to cure. This is air

Your mom’s a tobacco farmer? That tobacco sure looks nice… :)

Hey I want samples when ready please! LOL 😆

My grandfather on my mother’s side was a tobacco farmer in Tennessee, use to grow tobacco for Philip Morris, we always visited growing up.

My mother, father, both sets of grandparents, and at least one set of great grandparents were all tobacco farmers. Mother, at 86 years of age, still lives on the "home place" where I grew up. This farm was originally purchased by my paternal grandparents in the 1950's, and sold to my parents in the 1970's. Dad, now deceased, and his father, ran a Holstein dairy and raised tobacco here since the 1950's. The farm is currently leased to another local farm family whose crop you see here. The dairy cattle are long gone. Mother still lives in her house by herself, and like most farm women who survived all this, is with all due respect, "as tough as Tarzan's feet".

A question

The vast majority of tobacco grown today is contracted before planting.

But approximately, what’s the going rate for burley at auction?
``Lee,
To my knowledge it is now all contracted before planting. When I was on the farm it was sold at auction houses, but all the auction warehouses have long since closed. I haven't heard of a tobacco auction for probably 30 years.
