How does Kent know if his pipes smoke good or not if he has never smoked one, especially for the price he is charging?

Maybe the same way Leo Fender knew that his guitars performed well even though he never learned how to play. He had professionals give him opinions. An electric guitar is much more complicated in its engineering than a pipe, I'd venture to guess.
It is one thing if he is charging 100 but since he is charging over 2K per pipe, I would want to be sure for 2K it is a great smoker.
I'd imagine that Kent wouldn't have the reputation he has if his pipes smoked terribly 
I've had one of his in the past, it was a beauty. Top rate craftsmanship, drilled perfectly. I was relatively new to pipe smoking at the time and knew I wasn't ready for a pipe of that caliber, so I sold it. One of those I wish didn't get away.

I never saw directly such quality pipes, so I can't understand the meaning of this statement. I was thinking that perfection in drilling should be an average property of pipes.
Anyway nobody can deny the quality and beauty of this pipemaker's works.

When I received an email from smokingpipes with the image of this pipe, the first question came to my mind was "Does the chamber of this pipe is stained?". If the answer is yes, then how can it be smoked? Can you smoke tobacco in a finished chamber?
