Habs would be short a good half dozen cups without him, for sure. Back then, goalies were not the imposing force they are today. I can recall games, regular season and playoffs too, where both teams would frequently approach double-digit goal totals. Fun to watch as a fan, but not so much for those between the pipes.

RIP.

One of my childhood heroes.
Growing up in Canada there was none better. He only played 7 full seasons but he won 5cups and numerous individual awards. GOAT
Not to quibble over details, but he won 6 cups in 7 seasons, 5 vezinas, the conn smythe, the calder for rookie of the year and won the 1972 Summit Series. He also wrote The Game, the seminal book on hockey, got a B.A. from Cornell, L.L.B. from Mcgill, and the Order of Canada. I have the knees of an old goalie, but that's about as close as I got to accomplishing anything this man did.

Thanks for correcting me and providing all the details! I went back and did a little reading after your post. I didn’t realize he won the cup & smythe before the Calder. That’s just crazy.

I think it should also be said that by all accounts he was also a really nice guy.

I have the knees of an old goalie,

And hips...residual effects of head trauma and my two upper front teeth rest on the pegs of the originals. Playing before masks were normal (available) I also sport a few facial scars. But, I "lettered" in hockey! Worth it! Some days yes and some days no.

I will concede that Dryden is indeed the "Goat" simply based on "Cups" alone. Awards are nice but, Stanley Cuos are the season goals. RIP!
