Keeping Tobacco in Paint Can Tins?

Curious what y'alls experience with this type of tin is, and how long you've kept tobacco in them. We're there any issues ever?
Trying to decide if I should transfer to jars or if it's safe to leave them tinned. I have about 10 LJ Peretti 8oz paint cans that only date back a couple months or so, and most of my paint cans from other blenders are newer. Always made me nervous to really stock up on LJP thinking I'd have to jar everything I received.

I've got a couple cans I've been smoking out of for a year and the tobacco is fine. For long term storage I would recommend mylar or jarring.

I’ve never kept tobacco in the paint cans for longer than a year without wrapping or vac sealing. I did notice a small amount of moisture loss in a tin of HU after about a year.

Yeah I thought about vacuum sealing. Maybe I'll put em in mylar to be safe. At least the ones I won't be opening in the next year

How did you determine there was a small loss of moisture in a year?

Maybe an hour or two after receipt? I called Peretti when I was making my first order and they said I could store the tobacco in the cans for a long period of time, but I takes no chances with a pound of primo pipe tobacker

I live in a desert so I tend to jar or smoke thru what little paint can tins I buy.

I've kept my HU tobaccos in their paint cans for 6 years, so far. The ones that came with a plastic lid have held up well, but the ones that didn't lost enough moisture that I rehydrated a couple of them before they dried out too much and added plastic lids to them.

I just jarred a pound of LJ Peretti Tashkent no way i was leaving it in the paint can, dont trust the seal for long term. All my HU is jarred as well.

Pretty much a standard for me at this point, if its not a sealed round tin or mylar it goes in a jar.

I have a tin of Directors Cut from2016,better get it jarred up

I have many paint can tins I purchased new and they have held up for 5-6 years just fine. But I have opened tins I bought as vintage with 10 years or more to find the contents dry, though easily re-hydrated. So it depends what your definition of long term is.

I just got a fresh 200 gram tin of Peter Heinrich's Dark Strong, and the plastic cap sucks as far as sealing the tin goes after opening. Loose as a goose. Suppose I'll have to transfer to a jar, something I try to avoid. Pain in the ass. I'm not a fan of dried out tobacco.

For some unexplainable reason I transferred my Peretti blends to mylar bags and mason jars, I left the HU blends in their cans. So far the HU blends are doing just fine.

I have three paint can tins that I received new and opened about a year ago. There is less than 2 oz. in each and they are all still doing just fine.

How did you determine there was a small loss of moisture in a year?

I put the contents of one in a mason jar and kept the other in the can. I wasnt Thrilled with the idea of immediately transferring the blends into jars if it wasn’t necessary.

I have a paint can tin I just opened, it’s been in my “cellar” for over 13 years. It’s kept surprisingly well, everything here checks out. Not sure how they’d do with another 10 to 20 years though.
