Only eight more days until my move to Minneapolis. I've got a ton of work and packing to do over the next week, not sure how I'll get it all done in time.
Anyway, looking forward to life in the new city, I have been trying to think of things I can make without all of my welding or glassworking equipment. First thing that came to mind was oil-can flowers. Exactly what it sounds like. If I can dig up a picture of any of the ones I made in the past, I'll post it here. Next thing I thought of was pipe tampers. Gathered up all the oil cans I've collected, quite a few actually. Then I grabbed some of the barrel staves and Oak boards that I had in the workshop and cut 30 or 40 blanks for pipe tampers. That oughta keep me busy for a little while.
Now I'm wondering, aside from making pipes, what do you crafty guys do in order to keep your hands working? Paint? Play music? I'd love to hear what you like to make. Share photos too, if you have any!

Guitar - I like to make music. To the best of my ability at least.
Here's a photo of a show from Friday at the Pub here in town. My brother Forrest on the mandolin and our drummer, Bishop in the back.

I crochet. This last weekend I was commissioned to make some sweaters for chickens, something I've never made before so that will full up most of my free time. I do screen printing and embroidery by trade so I'm always doing something with my hands.

And, Tom, where's the pipe in the band photo??
Pouch on the piano out of frame. Hard to sing and smoke a pipe at the same time. Plus, though smoking is legal in bars here in Reno, the proprietor of this particular establishment doesn't allow it. Nor televisions. Nor gambling. It's a fairly "proper" and traditional Irish pub, not a McPub or sportsbar pretending to be a pub.

I forge. I focus on swords, but do a knife now and again. Don't really smoke while forging, but there's a lot of grinding, planning and fitting that I do smoke...a lot. Grinding and sanding, I especially find smoking calming and helps me focus on the minute details.

Guitar. When I want to wind down, I'll pick up the acoustic and play something nice and calming. When I want to pound out some aggression, I'll plug in an electric and let the universe know how angry I am.

man some of you folks have some talent and skills, I like to paint, and sketch, in high school i was creating a comic book called dog-tag soldiers which was kind of inspired by mouse the graphic novel, the comic book i was creating was about the war in Vietnam, and i made the marines into dogs, and the Vietcong into cats.

Whole lotta talent here! I paint, but my preferences and skill is painting trim. I draw, but only money from the bank. I build stuff but pretty pedestrian, though I've made a couple of good fireplace mantels in my day. I don't forge anything, not even checks. A bit of skill in Photoshop, but I've not been active with it for five years, and now can't even isolate and object with any skill.
But great to see other's photos.

I put in new front porch steps a few weeks ago. They were falling apart. Plan on screening in the porch and redoing the siding to keep the mosquitoes off me while I'm smoking my pipe. Working on the Jeep. I've got saplings that are dormant which I will be moving to their permanent locations, along with some tiger lillies and rose bushes this weekend. Rewiring my guitar. Get my bicycle ready for Spring. Plan on building a portable pipe case. I have more stuff to do than time to do it.
