Post a link with the details. I beat Kevin at the Chicago slow-smoking competition -- but then again, that's not saying much! Only kidding Kevin! ;) I was actually jealous of that nice-looking container of matches you received. I should have taken a dive just to win that! I think I was like 18th with a time of 45 minutes and 55 seconds.

Yep, I'll be there as always with a table full of nice estate pipes for sale. It's definitely a highlight pipe event of the year. I look forward to seeing you there.

To be honest i dont know the details of it, i know that its on december 10th, in new york, it at the kaywoodie plant. The only problem is i know that only like 45 people can compete, and its all first come first serve, i know im in, its 30 bucks, you get a buffet, a pipe ( if your smoking) and a tour of the plant. I know you can still get the tour and the buffet if your too late, i dont know if you get the pipe. Its supposed to be a fun time

I wasn't going to say anything, but changed my mind.
When I talked to Bill from Kaywoodie at the Richmond show 2 years ago, we were talking about this. I mentioned my interest in going and he asked me to please not go. His reason was that he said he is already at capacity and if I went and then publicized it, that it would be a mob scene that he couldn't handle.
I wouldn't spend the time and money to go if I couldn't produce content from it. It was disappointing, but Bill seems like a pretty nice guy though.

This event grew as an offshoot of the Xmas meeting of the Hudson Valley Pipe Club. That club didn't have a president, rather we called the position "Diictator", it made decision making much easier. I was honored to be Dictator of the HVPC for a few years, I was Rob II, Rob Denholz was Rob I, and Rob Garbarino is currently Rob III.
Bill of Kaywoodie offered to have our Christmas meeting at the factory and the first few years it was a small event, just our members and some guests. Since then it has grown and maxed out, the size of the space and logistics will not allow for any more participants.
And Bill isn't a pretty nice guy, he's a extremely nice guy.

That sounds like a fine club Rob. Take some pix and give us a report on the event. You are fortunate to live close to the Kaywoodie folks. I work on the NY Thruway with some frequency and will definitely work in some time to visit the factory and get a pipe.

As an add-on. I went last year and the event was really fun. There were several vendors, this year due to the Newark show in Dec. not happening a few more vendors may be there. We started gathering around 2pm and socialized until about 6pm when the slow smoke event began. Everyone got at least a couple tins of tobacco for their efforts. The top finishers grabbed some nice pipes.

I've been to 2 of these extremely fun and worthwhile sessions, finding out about it from the NYC Pipe Club. For $30, dinner, a new KW pipe, tins of tobacco even if you don't win, drinks and most bodacious fun folks, this is worth the 4-5 hr drive. As of Wednesday, the 48 contest spots are filled. But spectating and puffing would still be worth it. Plus there are lots of goodies to buy for Christmas.

I'll be there, fighting for the bag of matches  Honestly, even when trying to pace myself I'm not much of a competitor when it comes to smoking.

Hey Doc! I did--I've just been horribly lazy about editing it and putting it up on the site. I have a pile of a dozen or so reviews that I've just been looking at, ready for red-lining. I'll make it a point to finish that and bring it to you in person!
