This link and a few others have great info on Kaywoodies. I have a friend who owns a pipe shop and has been selling pipes since 1952. Not only his comment but those of others I know have told me that from the time Kaywoodie started in 1919 they were the equal to any Dunhill. This continued into the late 1930's and a few in the 40's after WWII.
This also explains the wide price range. Newer pipes usually sell cheap whereas older ones sell for a pretty good price unless the person doesn't know what they have.
