So here is my dilema. I like the look of Kaywoodies new pipes and old. New ones around $30 are in my price range, but I also see for a bit more, some on ebay and else where that are estates. Which one in you guys opinion would be a better purchase?

What rothnh said, "Do your homework." Old Kaywoodies were considered high end pipes back in the day. Many good estate smokers to be had for little $. But I would buy a new one too, try both. Buying the new one also helps keep American workers working. I make a point of buying at least one new Grabow every year, in addition to the estates I pick up. Good luck in your quest, the journey's more than half the fun!

I made an estate purchase. A 40 year old KAywoodie unsmoked, birdseye flame grain classic apple shape. Will send pics when received. ALso bought 2 new ones. A standard bent billiard and bent flame grain.

cyg - you are off to a good start. Both old (estates) and new KWs including a marvelous handmade POY are among my best puffers. Getting that unsmoked 40YO estate gets rid of the uncertainty with ghosts, though that has not presented me with a problem yet.
