I recently picked up this Kaywoodie and can’t determine when it was made. It’s stamped Kaywoodie Drinkless, imported briar and 42. Looks like a four hole stinger. Maybe someone could chime in and help? Thanks!
That's not a 4 hole, that's a 3 hole. I believe that would make it 1950s or later. I'd have to dig around for more information from when I bought my oldest kaywoodie months and months ago. The 2 digit number should help narrow things down more.

Ofc! Looks like the 42 is a medium apple made between 1927-1972. Given the 3 hole stinger which my notes say is 1955, that narrows it down quite a bit. Kaywoodies are difficult to date.

Beautiful pipe though! The black clover was supposed to indicate their better briar.

Yeah I did google it before I posted this. There’s alot of confusing information out there so I thought I would post the question here. Thanks for nothing.
Kaywoodie dating is a hit and miss proposition at best. The links that come up are the same info that the best posts provided.
‘55 to early seventies is unfortunately the narrowest you’ll probably be able to get.

I copied the write ups. But I used to avidly collect Kaywoodies so I know the older stuff well. The quality generally declines in the 60s so I had little interest in those pipes. I can’t say exactly when the featured pipe was made, but Kaywoodie over Drinkless over imported briar with the black in white clover with a 3-hole stinger puts it solidly in the later era. The Drinkless series was the original Kaywoodie offering. Later it became a lower tier model. Below Super Grain, Flame Grain etc.
