I have 4 or 5 MM cobs in my rotation, the last ones I bought several years ago, the "Spool" and the "Egg" shapes. I tried something new with them:
I tend to dislike (not smoke often) small pipes that I can't get my finger down to the bottom of the bowl. (Some people have a "rule of thumb".... I have the "rule of finger" 8) ) So, for the Spool and Egg pipes, I drilled out the bowls to a bigger diameter that I can get my forefinger down them. I wouldn't do this to a briar, of course, but with the inexpensive cobs, it allows them to hold more tobacco for longer smokes and in most MM models, will still retain a thick enough bowl wall. Try it and see.
