I was planning on buying a new pipe. Had my eye on a Neerup bent apple at Iwan Ries, but was also thinking about a Cayuga pot I saw at Paul's Pipe Shop. With all the talk about Paul's recently, I went to the web site today and saw they had a sale on - 15% off. Well, that was it - I ended up getting a Cayuga apple. Looks like it should be about a Group 4 in size, which is what I was looking for.

Nice grain, enhanced by the contrast staining, and I like the rotund apple shape as well. Very nice pipe. Let us know what you break it in with. Congrats and enjoy.

Fine pipe at a great price. I really like the shape. Just bought a Vuillard 1/8 bent apple from Iwan Ries. I only have one other

apple, that's a great big pipe, XL or Group 6, but the new one is a small Group 4.

Is the stem silver?

Sorta looks that way, doesn't it? Maybe a silvery gray?

As I said, I have been wanting a Cayuga. I've got a house pipe from Campbell's in East Lansing, too - also an apple - that I've had for a good 40 years. Smokes like a champ.
Let us know what you break it in with.
If this thing is the size I think it is, it will probably be a latakia bowl, and I will probably break it in with Old Dublin. I like to break in a pipe with a tobacco I know very well, and OD fits that bill. :puffy:

Jud, that is a beauty. Apples are one of my favorites for flakes and a group 4 is the perfect size. The grain on that is really nice and the stain reminds me of a Comoy Blue Riband. If it had a standard black stem I would have sworn it was a BR. Great classic looking shape, I hope it smokes great for you, congrats on your new pipe.

Thanks, guys.

If it's as big as I think it is (Group 4), I'll make it a lat pipe. I personally like a slightly smaller chamber (especially narrower) for Virginias. We'll just wait and see.

It arrived today. The stem is indeed a silver-y gray. Along with it came an ounce of Paul's Arrowhead pipe club blend. I'll let you guys know how it smokes.

Just finished the first bowl in this, of Old Dublin. Smoked like a dream. Got 'er going, and only had one relight, down near the bottom. A winner for sure. Add me to the list of Cayuga fans.
