Wow, I must have missed a good sale at $5.99 a tin. And at that price maybe should have at least doubled your order and got free shipping too.

I didn't get a free knife, but I did get a good wood pipe stand for a dollar from P&C, with my brushed black Stanwell

Canadian. Is it a pipe knife? Sounds good.

I still find it ironic that people so discriminating about things like pipes (or more commonly guns) can get excited about a knife that's the opposite of everything else they're interested in.

The saying "you get what you pay for" still applies with a free knife (and maybe especially with a free knife).

But whatever floats your boat, it's still better than a plastic knife.
I'll just leave this here.

I have one coming too, but not because of the knife. Newminster bulk is 20% off so I ordered 2 lbs each of Danish Gold and English Luxus, a 14 oz can of Granger, and a straight cob. Life is Good!

Its FREE...I would order the same regardless. BTW, I'm not a knife collector.
To put a bit of perspective on the subject. I've been doing a lot of house cleaning this year, even throwing out stuff that actually has value, but not enough to be worth the effort to sell (for example, no-one is going to pay $15 shipping on a $1 item, so it's better off in the garbage).

I hate clutter, so getting "free" things eventually has a cost in my level of sanity.

Actually, the proper term for said knife is "complementary", meaning "given with a dependency on purchase". A Free knife would be someone handing you a knife without anything from you in exchange.
Not to take away from the OP's enthusiasm about his recent order. Which is, in itself nice.

What the hell, if it's got a decent blade it might be good for cutting plug, rope and cake tobaccos, so it would then indeed be a free item that would of interest to pipe smokers. As a matter of fact, it states that very use for the knife in their catalog.

My intention of touting a Free Knife was satire. I am very happy that such a motivation caused me to order what I did, because I needed the little push. I've got a lot of new flavor on the way.

There's an old saying that comes to mind. Something about going to hell with the joke. I think it's about knowing when to quit. Shipping on the whole lot is peanuts compared to a double lot.

I hate to be nitpicky (actually I love to be nitpicky), but "decent" is very subjective. Like I said, compared to plastic this should be good. I can't find any information on the knife itself or the brand, so it's pretty safe to assume the worst. Probably just enough carbon to qualify as steel while inducing minimum cost on tooling (though there is actually no mention of steel), basically designed for ornamental purposes, not much different from your flatware.

Again, better than plastic, not made of wood, it's good in those regards.

It is HRC 58 Stainless, rather large @ almost 7 1/2" when opened. Stainless steel innerlock, thumb flippers, textured aluminum handle...the only other pkt knife I have is a Kershaw, but it cuts JKP like butter.

Sorry for mucking up your thread. I'm glad it was all light hearted.
Looks like you'll be having lots of fun with that tobacco haul, good choices.

Derfargin in with the amusing insight!
yes. That is basically my implication. Obviously the headline was intended to attract. When you see what I ordered to get said 'free' knife, you realize, hopefully, that it's about tobacco and not a knife.

The knife is extra. And Extra is nice.
I have quite few "free" knives. Many were actually free. Others came "free" with...whatever. They are all distributed out amongst the cars, tool kits, camping kitchen boxes and junk drawers.
I like free.
My best "free" knife came from my friend Larry who bought a 12-fer of (West) German Army soldier's kit pocket knives from Sportsman's Gouge Guide, back in the day. He gave me two. Holds an edge like Meade held the line on the Third Day. A great cigar knife for the car.
