Just Joined, Wanted to into Myself

I'm back on the pipe! Started again this fall, it's been about 15 years since I stopped. No good reason at the time, but I'm glad I'm back. Bug had hit me bad, severall new pipes, and a truly an unimaginable amount of tobacco purchases, at least to me. I'm looking to learn more about the hobby and be part of the community.

Thank you for the kind welcome. My biggest question or concern is at what point do you stop adding to your cellar? I guess when they kick you to the curb? when you have no money left? Don't laugh, for me I think in the last 90 days I have like 80 tins and another 8 or nine pounds in bulk in my cellar. That might not be much for folks in the hobby a bit, but my wife thinks I am a total loon! The other issue is I am trying to learn what I like and get it down to less than a handful of blends I smoke regulatory. I have 32 different tins open, crazy!
I look forward to learning from you folks, and trying to get this habit under control

Dear Bob,
Don't worry at all. What you're doing is by no means irrational. It all depends on your personal preferences. Some folks like certain blends enough to buy and stock them in their cellars lest they should run out. Others buy a lot just to avoid the trouble of having to order some more and paying shipping fees..... Personally, I buy enough tobacco to last me around two weeks because firstly I almost exclusively smoke pure Virginia blends (of which there are plenty, so no worries of running out) and secondly because I enjoy the trip to the tobacconist which gives me a chance to meet new people and socialise.
When it comes to tobacco there is no such thing as too much! Especially in these deeming circumstances. If you're within the means to buy then go for it. As for having different tins open at the same time, again not an issue. I went through the same phase of crazy mad sampling until I found my favourite blends. My only advice is to keep the tobacco stored in mason jars or something similar to avoid it drying out.
Don't worry Bob, go ahead and enjoy. Life's too short for us to be frugal about tobacco!

I have put in some small mason jars. Only issue I have is what to do with the rest of the tin or what's left once I decide I am not a fan of a particular blend. Don't want to trash it. I guess I can keep to see if it gets better in a period of time. But that is a space eater.

That's right Bob. You could either keep them because believe me you will change your mind several times before you find out what works for you, even then there's no guarantee. Or you could perhaps exchange some blends with a fellow pipe smoker to widen your scope.

Welcome to the site. You might want to check out tobaccoreviews.com, it is a very good source for learning what is in certain blends and what others think about them. When I began my journey I used that site to find most of my favorites. I found some reviewers with similar tastes and I was off and running.
