Just Got My New Samples.

One of the online stores I use has, for a long time, offered sample packs of their various loose (Gawith Hoggarth & Co) blends. Now, another store I use, has made their entire range of tobaccos (loose, pouch and tins) available in any multiple of 5 grams.
I think it's a great idea as I can now try a few bowl fulls of some different blends to see if I want to go on to try a full tin. I know it takes quite a few smokes to get the full measure of a new blend, but at least I can now concentrate on those I think I will like most for a fraction of the cost of buying a tin of every blend they stock.
So, over the next few days I will be seeing what I make of;

5gms is an awfully small amount, I always get 10gm samples so I can at least get a few bowls from it to make up my mind. As a matter of interest, what's the cost for such a sample over there?

I'm a long time fan of 1792. Its as manly as a pipe tobacco gets. I suggest smoking it while sitting down. Oh yeah, and let it dry a bit before hand.

Aussielass - It is a small amount so I tend to go for 10 grams to give a blend about 3 bowls full. Most blends cost about £1 for 5g which is AU$1.53, so most of my samples cost a little over AU$3.
Papipegy - Sitting down?? Laying down would be more like it! lol. Might actually be the first blend that is too strong for my tastes. Will give it another go before making up my mind fully.

1792 is some good, strong stuff for sure. Just don't smoke it on an empty stomach, and you'll be ok. I did get the nic-cups from it one time though.

Thought so far - 1792; Very strong! Wow, that;s going to satisfy the strongest nicotine cravings. It might actually be too strong for my tastes. Will give it another go though.
Wingfield Mixture- Nice quality tobacco, but not an outstanding taste. Perfectly smokable but I can't see it getting into my regular rotation based on first impressions.
Erinmore Mixture - Strange! Really didn't like the aroma of the tobacco and can't quite place the smell. Tastes a lot better in the pipe than it smells in the packet. Going to need some more time with this one to decide whether I like it or not.
Sam Gawith Navy Flake - Very very nice indeed. Suits my tastes very well indeed. Based on the initial aroma I thought it would be a little bland, but it really comes alive in the bowl. If I enjoy the rest of the sample pack as much as my first try, it will certainly be a regular.

P.S = I just worked out what the smell of Erinmore Mixture reminds me of. When I was a kid, we used to go on long driving holidays. I used to be a really bad passenger and Dad was never one who would stop once we got on the road. Most of my memories of those holidays are of throwing up in a plastic bag in the back seat. THAT'S exactly what Erinmore smells like Stale vomit! I don't think I will be smoking it again.

You and I are in the same bag... er... backseat. Most of my childhood memories of going anywhere that took more than an hour to get to usually involved either ginger root capsules or Dramamine-induced comas. If those didn't work, the window was rolled down, and I had to look out the window. Ugh. Still can't do travel that I'm not controlling.

Phew, just as I was about to consider parting with $40 for a tin of Erinmore, not now I won't be. I was dubious about it from the start, because the same coy. that does Borkum Riff also handles the distribution of that, it figures.
Wow you lucky thang, 10g sample here is $10. I ordered loads, but I have to de-ghost a few pipes before I hook into them, next time I'll be more careful.
