I received this big brown pipe awhile back. I don't remember where/when I got it, and I don't think I ever knew its maker. It was just big and...brown. Blah blah blah brown! I've smoked it a few times. Because of its heft, it mostly has to be held, resulting in very little teeth chatter on the stem. The band is sterling silver and it's unique. The pipe has been sitting on my bench for awhile and this evening I decided to redo it. I sanded it all down from 220 to 3000 and then added a touch of mahogany leather dye. In the past, my attempts to lighten mahogany--to allow the grain to show better-- resulted in the red washing out leaving...brown. I didn't want to go with a red dye, so I just went with the mahogany. It's like a brand new pipe. Imagine this same pipe the color of cardboard and you will appreciate the difference. is it true a prettier pipe smokes better?
