Our featured guests on tonight's Pipes Magazine Radio Show are Jonni Adams and Grey Van Kuilenburg. Jonni makes the J. Adams line of pipes. He is originally from Leeds in West Yorkshire, England, and moved to the US in 1997. Grey makes the Van Kuilenburg line of pipes. He is a tattoo artist full time, and also hand carves custom electric guitars and basses for the last 30-years. Both Jonni and Grey have been making pipes for five years. They will be telling us about their trip to Denmark to work with Tom Eltang. At the top of the show Brian will answer a listener question about aging flake tobaccos.

The show airs every Tuesday at 8:00pm eastern US time, and can be found at PipesMagazine.com and all podcast apps.

These fellas are two of the best guests you’ve ever had on the show so it was great to hear them together. (After all, this is how you’ll spot them in the wild.)

It was fascinating to hear about the tremendous influence and goodwill passed from a current legend to these two future legends and as such it’ll be intriguing to watch their development over time.

As a side note, Grey van K is the lead singer of a metal band and he’s quite good at what he does. It’s too bad you didn’t play one of his songs to frighten the oldies!

I love these guys’ friendship and it sounds like they have a blast between carving, track days, and racing sims. I forget what Jonni’s track car is but that McLaren should give even Eltang’s Smart a bit of trouble.

Brian, do you know other carvers who take the same approach as Tom when it comes to mentoring and passing on knowledge?

Excited to hear the outcome of the experiment!

I saw the pictures of their visit with Tom on Instagram. It was nice getting a more in depth account of it. Tom has been great the few times I’ve briefly met him at the Vegas show. Carvers getting to spend time with him in the shop, that has to be a top 5 or top 3 life moment.

Congratulations, Pilot Levine. I think the story of stick to it is something a lot of us needed to hear. It’s a great inspiration.

As a collector of Tom Eltang pipes, it was very cool to hear about their trip to Denmark, and learn more about his shop & incredible skills. It did not surprise me in the least to learn of Tom’s graciousness and willingness to share his secrets. I can’t wait to see Jonni and Grey’s table in Chicago and perhaps pick up a pipe made with these newly-acquired skills.

These guys had way too much fun at "Pipe Camp" and definitely leveled up with their creativity and productivity. Great to hear more examples of how the pipe community is willing to share and build friendships. A great opportunity and a lesson in taking quality breaks to appreciate a bit more.
