This hits hard. I was not yet 15 when I first saw John at Willie’s 1st Annual 4th of July Picnic at Dripping Springs in 1973.
I guess he’s shaking God’s hand about now.

This is a real tragedy for most of us. His songs told stories that we could relate to. He was only five months older than I am.

I saw him perform quite a few times, here in Chicago, back in the day. A lovely human being and powerful singer-songwriter.

Agreed. My understanding is that nobody dies directly from COVID-19, but from the various compilations that it can cause.

It's a rare thing when a musician dies and you actually mourn as if you knew them. This is one of those times.

I've seen that reported in a couple of articles. Most notably, the one on msn.com.
Reality is, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer in his neck in 1997 and in around 2003, he had half a lung removed because of cancer. If it wasn't for the Covid-19, they would be reporting him as dying from lung cancer.

I'm really pretty much a devastated lump right now. My band has played a dozen Prine songs, and his music has inspired, comforted and helped pull me through some dark times and made me smile when nothing else could. He wrote in a voice that felt like my own, and like everyone's, but was all his own at the same time and losing him feels like loosing a best friend.

I aologize for splitting hairs here. Too small a difference for some. I'm very interested in the death rate from the virus and not so much as a contributor. Granted one is just as dead, the mourners mourn and such. I suspect the gratuitous "of course" triggered my response.

RIP. I was fortunate enough to have seen him twice. A true poet. It was like being in church and school at the same time.
