I was fortunate enough to have sampled the 1960s BS, and this is fairly similar to it. The main differences are the Orientals are a little spicier, there's a little less latakia, and a little more sweetness here than the 1960s version.
Yeah but that's the 1960's version with over 40 years of age, so it's going to be alot different than a fresh tin in 1960.

Andrew, that's always the issue. When I did BlackHouse for the Throwdown in 2011, I was trying to replicate a sample of 759 with more than 25 years of age, so I used some tobaccos that were never in the original, and although I'm proud of how it turned out, I smoked enough 759 when I was in my twenties to know that it doesn't resemble how 759 was when fresh.

WhiteKnight is a different story, because I was basing it upon my memory of the fresh version from the late seventies/early eighties. I'm pleased with the result, and the feedback has been very positive.

Don't worry Russ, I would buy your whiteknight over the new Balkan Sobranie anyday. I'm just stating if you're comparing a 40 year old tin of BS to whiteknight, there's bound to be some significant differences in tastes. Even Billy Budd with a year of age compared to it fresh is totally different, you wouldn't even think it was the same blend.

Andrew, I'm well aware that tobacco ages over time, and I said as much in an earlier thread on another popular forum. Detailing my experience was done to show, even with inherent changes over time of formula and tobacco aging, Russ was still close to the old blend.

Just cracked open a tin of White Knight last night... very cool, smooth smoke. Great flavor. Enjoyed so much before dinner, I just had to smoke another after. Glad I ordered several tins!
