Soap is a strong alkaline taste, flower extract is nothing like that.
Go get some un-scented soap and see how that tastes, then try Ennerdale. They couldn't be more different.
The smell of the smoke from a fresh tin of Ennerdale is overwhelming, I readily agree with that. Sensory overload for sure, but ignoring that, the taste is very nice. After letting it sit in a jar for a week the smells were much more managable.
I guess asking people to separate the flavour from the smell may be like asking a painter to ignore the colours on something that is geometrically beautiful (and yes I have read all the articles connecting smell and taste), it's just a little ironic to see such resistance in a hobby where acquiring new tastes is almost mandatory to participation.
