Jim's C&D Sanseprolcro Review.

I bought this after reading Jim's review.
I hate, and I mean hate, pure Virginia blends. I haven't found a Va or Va/Per I've liked. But it seems anything with Burley or Dark Fired or whatever the proper name is - just hits everything for me. My whole cellar was only English blends or Oriental blends with a tin or 2 of the aforementioned pure VA or VaPer and they are still there with one or two sent to good homes.
So after buying 3 lbs of ODF and several tins of other similar blends I saw this review and threw in a tin of Sanseprolcro.
I have to say that when I smelled the tin, I wasn't sold. I thought I had bought a straight forward Va. I admit I was going into the first bowl with disappointment. However, after I got it going (perfect straight out of the tin) my fears were put to rest.
It is like ODF with an added layer. What that layer is will be different for most I'm sure. I can't describe other than saying it comes across in flavor the way grandmothers spice cabinet smelled when I was a child.
My only complaint is that it is dry out of the tin and burns very well, but I burns too quick. Even in a bigger bowl it hardly lasts longer than 30 minutes.

Grimpuffer: lightly hydrate it and see how it does. You may find that more to your liking.

A lot going on in the blend, and Jim susses out the nuances. Like watching a really good juggler.

I love this stuff. And I am an English, Lat-bomb guy. I was intrigued by the idea of florets -- actually flower parts -- in there!
On the VA spectrum, this looks most like Rattray's Old Gowrie, but with some of those bits and pieces you like to see in something hand-blended.
Why this is not like anything else you think it might be like: think food... this does not taste like it came out of a can or a (freezer) pouch. The "small batch" tag is for real in its complexities.

On my second tin. Mine has not been dry out of the tin at all. In fact I find it nicely moist and in need of some drying time.

So, I'm at the Las Vegas Show and the guy working a table across from mine has a pipe in his mouth continuously... even when he's talking... and he was talking all the time. Friendliest fellow I ever saw. I think the pipe came out of his mouth only after he'd loaded another one to light. He comes up and introduces himself... guess who?
JimInks, it was a pure pleasure to meet and visit with you!

My mind conjured up a caricatured version of this meet up as more of a confrontation, each with his gang of followers (hierarchy of gang organised according to tobacco review count) all armed to the teeth with sharpened tampers and swinging socks stuffed with tins of warhorse...but I am sure it was just like you said.
