Thanks for the stories down memory lane Jim. Although I only started smoking a pipe 11 years ago your stories reminded me of when I worked the graveyard shift at a local supermarket in south central Texas called HEB, my last year of college. One of the last things I did on my shift was to restock the tobacco counter and cigarette racks before I left in the morning before classes. I wish I had payed more attention to types of tobacco, brands, etc. One of my roommates had chewed tobacco so I always remembered putting out the Redman, Levi Garrett, and Beechnut. I remember there were some plugs of tobacco, and packages of pipe tobacco, but just didn't pay attention since I had no interest at the time. Now I wish I had payed more attention. Oh well, ancient history.

Congratulations on joining the 50 year club. I joined 4 years ago. I have pipes I’ve gathered over that time and a few I’ve bought lately. The craftsmanship on the new pipes is lacking compared to the older stuff. As a matter of fact I have all the pipes I’m ever gonna have. Breaking in new pipes is an experience I never want to have again. Although I’ve been smoking pipes for a long time I only became a dyed in the wool, hard core pipe smoker in the last 8 caused by nessesity after quitting cigarettes.

Thank you for the kind words, and congrats to your 54 years. How did you adjust from smoking cigarettes to pipes? Do you still inhale? If not, how did you manage to break that particular aspect?

Congratulations on the anniversary.

And I must say, I have only been smoking for a few years but I am extremely appreciative of all your posts on tobaccoreviews. When I am debating a purchase or I feel like I am missing something in a blend, I will head over there and see what you thought of it. Your reviews are top notch, in depth, helpful, detailed and always give me a good idea of what to expect before purchasing. If they aren't paying you for posts, they should be.

Keep up the good work, your pallet and dedication are gifts to us all.

Conrats thats actually really cool. I just had my 1 year of smoking a month or so ago. A decent cheap briar and 2 oz of "not no local" bought at the gatlinburlier while on vacation in the smokies. Hoping I can make it to a 50 year anniversary. Cheers!
