This thread seems to be trending political... Please just give condolences and pay your respects or keep it to yourselves. No need to stir up discord. No mater our individual opinions of him, the man held the highest office in the United States, and for that, I think he at a minimum deserves a tip of the hat.

To any who feels the need to say their own truth, this is a pipe forum. Carter was a decent man. On the day of his passing, if anyone feels as though something other than that needs to be stated, state it somewhere else. Over half the country choose him - something they had done for only 38 other people. There will be other days and places to evaluate the effectiveness of his presidency. I expect the mods will soon lock this thread - which is a shame that some of his admirers will be denied the ability to salute his service to our country.

i was born 9 months into his presidency so have no real opinion. this is wild and both sides dance on the graves of their opponents now. sad

Carter didn't win the election as much as Ford lost it. He got elected because enough people couldn't stand the thought of four more years of inflation and poorly aimed gold balls. And they fell for the fake smile.

He was very "Wilsonish" in his faith in "man." Sadly, it didn't work out for either of them. "Man" just couldn't/wouldn't measure up.

Well, he was my CiC for a while. I wouldn't say I "loved" him OWe certainly were far apart in our political beliefs.) but, I respected his Christian ideals and how he tried to live up to them. In my case he certainly appeared to do better at that than I did.
