Our featured interview on tonight's Pipes Magazine Radio Show is with Pipe Artisan Jeff Gracik. Our regular listeners will know Jeff from our ongoing series, “Ask the Pipemaker”. Jeff makes J. Alan Pipes and is an expert, artisan pipe maker for over 20-years. Jeff will talk about what it is like to attend the Shanghai pipe show. The inaugural show was last year, and the most recent one was August 8 - 10, 2025. Jeff attended both shows, which is held at the China Tobacco Museum. In Pipe Parts, Brian will talk about pipe shows including why you should go to a pipe show, how to prepare to attend a show, and what it's like to organize a show.

The show airs every Tuesday at 8:00pm eastern US time, and can be found at PipesMagazine.com and all podcast apps.

Happy Birthday Pipes Magazine Radio Show. Uh oh, we’re in trouble, the show is a teenager.

Could we dig diaper… uh I mean deeper, into daily pipe cleaning habits again… for Jay Furman’s sake?

Sounds like the Shanghai pipe show was a fun and successful show. 4,000 pipe people in one pipe gathering is just mind blowing. I’m always impressed seeing the full room at Las Vegas. Walking into a show that big would probably leave me catatonic.

I forget where I heard Hunger Strike recently, but I’ve been listening to it constantly since then. Great hidden gem of 90s music.

I can’t make the Indiana show, but I hope it’s a huge success. Can’t wait to see everyone at the Vegas show here in a few weeks!

Good comments and tips on attending a pipeshow, as well as the "keep your glass jars at home" for airlines. Pocket jars or a ziplock bag are the way to go these days.

Definitely a different thought on a pipe show in Shanghai, but it makes sense with the sheer volume of people in that city and the regulations with the government. Not sure why they don't have it in January or February though, be like a hot wet blanket of smokey sweaty fun..... um, pass. ;)

Sounds like a wonderful show. Jeff should quit pipe making and take up reporting full time 😆

I wonder if in the future the show will include invites like Disney Shanghai does. I would love to attend one day and meet some of the Chinese carvers and get to know the pipe smokers in China.

If you need a song about Delaware in the future, check this song out by Canadian musician City and Colour:

Enjoyed the show. Amazing the number of attendees to the Shanghai pipe show!
Also, loved the story of Manduela restoring a Poul Ilsted. They are both favorite carvers of mine!

I’ve had a love affair with tobacco pipes since my youth. There used to be a store called “The Den Shoppe” in Ontario, Canada. I recall walking into that store and the smell of the tobaccos washing over me. I secretly bought a pipe and some tobacco and hid them from my mom in my sock drawer. I must have been 14 as I had no license. She was not a stupid woman and I’m certain knew but never said anything. Fast forward to my late 50s and my mom has been supplanted by my wife, who is not as supportive of my hobby. All to say Brian, is I faithfully tune into your weekly show for a kind voice and sense of community. In the backwoods of outskirt Ontario 🇨🇦 , you’ve made an impact. THANK YOU! 🙏🏼
