Jars or Tins?

I wonder if I should buy a few of the Teavana air tight tins or try to buy some mason jars? I suppose the benefit of the jars is to be able to see through them. I have zero idea of where to buy such a thing. Any ideas?

The best deal I've seen on jars is at Ikea. You can get a glass hinged jar big enough to hold 8oz of tobacco for $5.

mason jars i live in Canada and my house goes from hot to cold in the matter of days and i never have to touch my tobacco
you can go to wallmart and get like 12 mason jars for like $10 and they fit anywhere to 2 oz to 8 oz

I go with hinged glass jars, they are best for long term storage, other sources say that they will keep tobacco good for 10+ years!

screw top mason jars all the way... they are very inexpensive and there is a reason they have been used by so many people for so many years.

What about the tins the tobacco comes in? For instance if you bought a tin of Frogmorton, would you cellar it in the tin or would you take it out of the tin and put it into a jar? I think I read somewhere you need to introduce some air to help with the aging process. I could be wrong, I've read so much info over the last month.

I store my open tins in large tupperware like containers that keep them fresh for months on end. Walmart sells a 4 pack of the plastic tubs in 4 different sizes for like 5 bucks.

I just sterilize jam/mayo jars when the family is done with them, make sure that there's no smell afterwards. Very cheap, green, and retains the moisture level forever as far as I can tell.
Do keep them out of the sunlight though.

You do have to thoroughly clean the food jars.
I put them through the dishwasher and then check on the lids to make sure there is nothing left over. I put the lid on and let them sit for a little while, then check for the smell of food or soap. If there is any smell, do it again.
I have not had any problems with mold or taste tampering so far ::

Does it matter to much if you do not have a jar filled all the way to the top? Say if your useing thoughs big jars and you only have a 1/4 to a 1/2 of a jar filled? :?

I hadn't thought of the hinge top jars but if they're good enough for gum balls they should be good enough for my tobacco. I guess anything is better than my little 1 oz baggies.

I just started reading the "show me your stash" threads. wow!!! So can someone tell me more about tobacco and aging? is it like wine in that the older, the better? I think i may need to rethink my strategy here for a longer term approach.
