Our featured interview on tonight's Pipes Magazine Radio Show is with Jamie Connelly and Matt McCulloch from the Milwaukee Pipe Club. We’ll get some insight on how the club got started and how they run the club. It will be some good information for anyone that wants to join or start a pipe club. Jamie is the president of the club, and he also does estate pipe restorations and sales. At the top of the show in Pipe Parts, Brian will talk about “The Art of Collecting” and why it’s good to have more than one hobby.

The show airs every Tuesday at 8:00pm eastern US time, and can be found at PipesMagazine.com and all podcast apps.

Great intro topic, one thing I've found is that other hobbies can sometimes give you a new approach to an old one. When I got into fountain pens (another common overlapping hobby) I found how similar the two groups were. We have pen guys, who collect the pens primarily and guys who collect the inks primarily. Felt a lot like pipe vs tobacco types. And then you have guys like me who just like to write and smoke.

My other hobby has always been hockey. I love playing it and watching it. I’m also getting back into reading more regularly and I must say it’s as good of a stress reducer as the pipe.

It was fun hearing the pipe club stories from Jamie and Matt. Sounds like a great club and a great group of people.

The music selection this week was very relaxing.

We’ll miss your writings Chuck, congrats on retirement.

I have way too many hobbies to keep me distracted from pipe smoking and suck up my money, like kids, fly fishing, whitewater rafting, skiing, and playing cribbage. Loved the Milwaukee guys and hearing about their pipe club. Sounds like a southern version of "Strange Brew" with the McKenzie brothers.

I flip flop between hobbies involving cars, racing, and outdoor hobbies (much too frequently), but one hobby that I have been able to stick with is pipe smoking.

The Milwaukee Pipe "Kloob" sounds like a great time. Much of the conversation reminded me of our pipe club in Rome, GA. I encourage everyone to join a club nearest to them, or create their own. Pipe clubs are great

I really enjoyed Brian‘s interview with the founders of the Milwaukee Pipe Club. I got to sit with some of the MKE members in the smoking tent in Chicago this year and they were a fun bunch.

Brian also talked about pipe smokers with other hobbies. As my Instagram handle @VintageTackle1958 indicates, I have been collecting antique reels, lures and flies for over 30 years. I am the founder of the 800 member Old Reel Collectors Association (ORCA), and a member of the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club (NFLCC), and the Florida Antique Tackle Collectors Club (FATC). That group of collectors reminds me so much of the pipe club I am a member of in Moundsville, WV and the pipe shows I attend: just good, generous people from all walks of life. My passion for vintage tackle is a bit overboard and my collection has been featured in Country Living magazine and The Journal of the American Fly Fishing Museum, as well as the seminal book on Orvis flies that was published just last week. Here is a link with photos of the book at the end of that thread:

Wish we had one a bit east of you in Marietta.
