I've heard of Horry Jameson, famous British pipe maker for GBD, but I had never heard before of a "Jameson's" line of GBD pipes. Is that where the name for this line comes from? And were the pipes themselves marked "Jameson's"?

Wes, yes they were named for Horry Jameson, and yes the pipes are marked Jameson's.

As I recall, he also designed a lot of the Unique's.

BTW, Jameson had a nearly 40 year career at Barling, fashioning many of their quaints and "20's era "freak" shapes before going over to GBD.

I've whiffed on a few Jameson's. As a GBD collector, that is an intriguing brand. I also saw that box, the first I've encountered.

Pitchfork, thanks for the post.
I've never seen a box like this before and I too didn't know that GBD sold a line of machine made pipes with the Jameson name on it.
Shape number, standard GBD bag and box size indicate that it was a machine made pipe (smaller). Jameson (or other) Uniques had an oversize box meant to fit a wide range of sizes. The Jameson name had some cache within the GBD circle of influence (perhaps Barling).
I'm guessing that this was a private label line of pipes made for Smoker's Haven. Jameson was well known there and to their customers and they were a big GBD house. Certainly they had the clout to ask for and get this made. Cost was just for the boxes, stamps on the pipes and perhaps for the picture of those sexy hands on the fine sander.

That makes a lot of sense Pete. With the volume of pipes pushed thru Smokers Haven, they would be able to justify the cost of a box like that one.

That's really interesting, neverbend. Thanks for that additional information. I'm a novice when it comes to post-war GBD's, but what you say about the standard shape number makes perfect sense.
