So a year ago, I picked up some C&D Izmir blending tobacco, in an effort to understand it better. I've found I really enjoy smoking it straight, so I have started looking for good uses of it in other blends.

In what blends do you feel the Izmir really shines? I'm enjoying Country Squire's Pilgrim's Muse (aka Bag End) which uses C&D Izmir very well. What other examples do you have?

LJ Peretti's Tashkent (Izmir and other Turkish leaves listed) and Balkan Sasieni (Turkish and Macedonian are listed) are very delicious oriental-forward blends that are readily available.

But I'd be surprised if either of those uses C&D as the source of their Izmir. Peretti has talked about stocking up on Sutliff leaf before the Sutliffocalypse dried up that supply, and Sasieni is an STG production so they most certainly have their own sourcing.

So, just what is Izmir? In his book "All About Tobacco," Milton M. Sherman describes Izmir (also called Smyrna) as follows:

"Izmir tobacco constitutes approximately 60-70% of the entire Turkish tobacco crop. It has a very small leaf with a small vein construction and a low nicotine content. The color varies from light green to pale gold and it is very sweet and lightly aromatic. It is excellent for blending because it 'marries' with practically any other type of tobacco. It is the most widely used Turkish tobacco in American blend cigarettes."

So I got some C&D Izmir Turkish in my shopping cart at SP along with some Perique. I plan to use in combination with Old Joe Krantz Blue in hopes to creating something Similar to Riverboat Gambler. Waiting on pay day, but when I get it I'll let ya know how it turns out.

How does one smoke a blend ironically?

Coincidentally smoking a blend, that I can understand. But to smoke one ironically is new to me.
The term means, your doing something in a way that insults most people who do that something.

To illustrate a large number of liberals will were MAGA clothing to gay clubs in an"ironic" way

Izmir, perique and any good Virginia makes for a great combination.

One blend where Izmir really shines is Chelsea Morning. There's a bit of Latakia, but the Izmir gives it a bright, fragrant note that I really like. It also has some perique and a good base of Virginias, so it's more like a VaPerO with a touch of Latakia than it is a conventional English blend.

There are some good suggestions in this thread from a while back (when I first got excited about mixing Izmir with Virginias and perique).

It's evident that you and I have shared a similar wavelength, only twelve years separate from one another! I've got some of these same mixing components with similar intentions! What was your favorite house blend?
