C&D autumn evening!! Picked it up at the local B&M and from the char light it was heaven!! Even though it’s classed as an aromatic

It’s drier than most and a different cut it smoked so cool and the flavor blew me away! I actually called up yesterday and had them

Set 4oz aside for me to pick up on Wednesday when we get paid as it’s out of stock online! My second new love is John Bull that I got in a sampler

Pack for $1.00.

Mine is a tale of love and loss. My first love was Frog Morton's Cellar. Then she died. I'll never love again. Though my mistress Plum Pudding is pretty fine...

Dunhill Nightcap for me. It was the first pipe tobacco I bought and I bought it with my first pipe. Apart from getting into cigars when I was in Cuba, it was the tobacco that really shifted my view of what smoking was all about and although I rarely smoke Latakia blends these days I still love it for what it did for me. It's hard to watch it being killed off.

Tabac-Manil Semois. I first learned about it from a newspaper feature and figured since it was a Belgium based single-leaf, I'd never get to sample it. Then it came to the states, a Forums member sent me a sample, and I raved about it, and a Forums member sent me most of a package (and a large tin of Frog Morton Cellar ... and a magnificent pipe I almost missed in the box) and Semois became a permanent feature of of my rotation, kind of the essence of burley. Since I long ago finished off the package sent me, my wife has gifted me with packages on special occasions. Always a treat to pack a bowl.

In my early pipe-smoking days, I went from Borkum Riff straight to Capstan Original.
After that, there's not much else to say.

Finally, an easy one! Latakia. Straight. Boom. I had a lot of blends I liked, from sweet aros to full Englishes, but the first time I bowled up with 100% Lat ('72 or '3, I think; was still in college at the time) I was done. It was the benchmark & everything else was also-ran.

The very first was Nightcap for me. Just starting out it was the first tobacco that got me to that piping nirvana moment. I swore off Latakia some time ago, but I do have a tin and a jar stashed away. Tried to go back there not so long ago, but it didn't work - that's the jar in the back!

The first time I had a smoke that I viewed as an epiphany was a bowl of FVF. It just sang and I still remember that smoke, which seemed transofrmational to me at the time. I have only rarely duplicated that feeling though.

3 Oaks Syrian. Had some great smokes as I started out with MM965 and London Mix but when I started smoking that first tin of 3 Oaks Syrian it was amazing. I was sitting on the deck watching the sun go down and for a little while everything was right in the world.

In 1985 when I was living in Austin, TX., I bought my first hand made pipe at a tobacco shop located on the strip near the University of Texas. The pipe was made by a new carver out of Italy by the name of Tonino Jacono. He is still making great smoking pipes today. The tobacconist had just gotten in a lot of Dunhill blends and I purchased only one tin because back then even $4.95 for a 50g tin was a lot after I'd just spent $150 on a new pipe (can we get those days back, please?) Anyway, I went to my apartment, popped the tin and smelled the most delicious odor I'd ever experienced from a tobacco. With drool on my lips, I loaded up a bowl and set fire to the leaf. I understand that tastes change over a period of years as many smokers gravitate from one tobacco to another. But here it is, 33-years after that maiden voyage with the Yacht, and I'm still puffing on that magnificent weed - only the Murray's version as the Orlik RY is nothing like the original. So, I've been loyal to my first love. (-;

Escudo was the first blend that opened my eyes to how great a pipe could be. I was a big cigar smoker at the time and the spicy/sweet flavors of Escudo hooked me. I am still smoking Escudo 20 years later.

Yep, Escudo and Dunhill Navy Rolls was my revelation. Can't remember which I smoked first. I also vividly remember Scottish Cake. I still adore those high quality Va/Per tobaccos. Would be happy enough never to smoke any Latakia ever again if I l always had those three blends.
I have tried 965, Nightcap (of which I still have a fair amount), Frog Morton etc and I do like them, but my first and true love is Virginia Perique.

It was too long ago, but I could say Escudo as I fell head over heels for the presentation and taste.

This one's a tie for me between FVF and Escudo. The first time with both stopped time for me. Eureka!

It was ‘97 Christmas Cheer. I’d tried a few OTCs, some house blends, some Mac Baren blends, some Butera offerings, then it happened. I’m still relatively well stocked, though these days the sampling is better measured.

Another victim of Nightcap here. Then I cheated on her with EMP, Standard Mixture and London Mixture. Even had flings with the Yacht.

Dunhill is (was) the best tobacco you could get in my town.
