I'm curious on your thoughts on social media marketing as it was a major focus at my school. It will be interesting to hear from someone who doesn't like it.

I already polluted your soapbox with my drivel, Kevin.
Seriously though, kudos on the new venture. If nothing else, I imagine blogging is cathartic.

What I don't like is all the hype, BS, buzzwords, and poseur / wannabes - flavor-of-the-month crapola.

That's all it is really.
I just couldn't contain myself anymore when I read about how someone just invented online forums, but made them worse.

I enjoyed your reply to my blog response, Kevin. :)
Overall, the idea of social media and networking doesn't really bother me. It's that the growing interest in those mediums seems to be killing basic forms of communication, namely our use of language. In high school, we read 1984, and I found it both hilarious and ridiculous the notion that we would ever communicate via an imbecilic, condensed language that removes any eloquence and style from speech and/or writing.
Unfortunately, it's happening, and I don't find it so humorous any longer. Just sad. Really, I use Facebook for a news metasource. Occasionally, I'll throw my thoughts out there if for no other reason than to amuse myself. I don't tweet. I don't Google+.

I don't mind reading some people's blogs occasionally. Some people do have interesting things to say and say them in interesting ways. However I have read several blogs over the years, some of which had thousands of followers, where the writer was clearly plagiarizing someone else's work and passing it off as their own.
I agree with what you said about people saying they are "professional bloggers." All I hear when someone says that is "I don't like work."

I should be a professional blogger but I'm going for even bigger underachievement. I'm going to be a Vlogger! That way there isn't all that writing and stuff.

Right. Instead there's: scriptwriting, lighting, sound, and editing which includes titles, transitions, both audio and video effects and... Yeah. You get my drift. Anything with video, good video, will take way longer than any written blog you could come up with.

Here is the only blog I've seen that is any good. I don't believe that social media marketing is an end all marketing solution but say you want to get a coupon or a deal out to the public it is great. If a website is marketed good via google adwords and or demoz.org it might not be needed at all.
