As the echoes of illegal fireworks subside and we venture out of doors to survey the damage, let us all take a moment to remember Sante Giuliani, aka "fishnbanjo".

His knowledge of pipes was surpassed only by his generosity.

His mastery of the pipe selfie was the stuff of legends.

His collection of briar was the envy of kings.

He kept it smokey and he was our friend.

How to properly celebrate Fishnbanjo Day:

Load a fancy or favored pipe with a great tobacco.

Put on a nice hat (preferably a flat cap, but substitutes accepted) and some shades.

Go into the yard or park and position yourself in front of your favorite tree.

Get the pipe going and snap a selfie that shows you "keeping it smokey".

Post the pic here.

Somewhere around here I have a thumb drive with shots of Sante, myself and a couple of others fishing the Beaverkill, at my camp, and at the Catskill FF Museum, when some of his split canes were on display there. I’ll find and post them eventually.
I would love to see those. He and I traded a few cane rods years ago. A real prince of a man and a grand collector of cane rods and pipes.
