When your mercury hits -50 F before you factor in windchill, then you can tell me about the cold.
We are having a second mellow winter here so far. What's scary though is that we have almost no snow. We need a good layer of snow on the ground for when it does dip down or we can get frozen pipes. That's a nightmare at 40 below, not to mention my poor grass.

Spent the morning hunting, and bagged a doe. High of 24 today and windchill of about 5 with gusts up to 20mph. Deer is hanging and I'm warming up before its processing time. Low tonight is only 14...

My upper respiratory crap cleared up over the holiday break, just in time for the temperatures to drop. It's currently 18F outside, with an expected high of 43F. Supposed to get a little warmer by Friday (yay!), but I still think I'll just try to make time to go to the B&M this week instead of braving the back patio. Brrrr....

Here in the North Central Arkansas area, it got up to 81 yesterday. It was a beautiful day. Today, not so much. Overcast, with a high of 30 and a low of 24. It's a bit cooler here than other areas, as I live in between 2 regional lakes.
I keep my thermostat at 61 while at work, and 68 when I get home. I see no sense in keeping a home so warm. On the flip-side, during the summer, I keep my AC set to 86. Just cool enough to kill the 95-100 heat, but not enough to run up the elec bill.

Thanks y'all for reminding me why I moved to Mexico!
Ya know..I have this feeling about you now.. but "hate" really is such a strong word....
The downside is all my pipe tobacco has to come from either the States or Europe.

There are no shipping charges as it is technically illegal to ship pipe tobacco into Mexico, not so for cigarettes or cigars. Fortunately I have enough friends that travel north or across the pond to keep my cellar sufficiently stocked.
As for cost of living, I estimate it to ba at about half the cost in general terms, but currently prices are skyrocketing.
Fact is there are other retirement destinations that offer better value, Nicaragua, Ecuador or Bolivia, but I'm far from retired so I require a fast economy to stay in business and Mexico has done me well for the past 15 years.

The topic of this post is why I moved out of Teton Valley, Idaho. It should be in the 70's all week where I'm now located. I do apologize for my smugness, I'm just loving my new location.
Old Cajun, you are right about the Global Warming, or as I've started to think about it as Global Weather Change.

I converted from the snow belt to the sun belt in 1976 and never regretted it. Maybe this winter will shut up the climate change idiots. 30 years ago the old ladies of both sexes were worried about nuclear winter; now it is global warming. Al Gore still flies in private planes and his mansion uses enough electricity to supply a small village. Smoke indoors. Still no hard evidence that second hand smoke is a danger.
Al Gore is nothing but a con man and fraud, just like President Obozo.

I've seen many articles where people say it's more accurate to say global climate shifting. I tend to agree with that, because these past two years it seems the frigid temperatures and mass snow accumulation that Canada typically gets has crept much further south into America.
