I was going to get the Peterson zulu/bent dublin they had but since I just got a Comoy's zulu, I passed.

I think they took down the promotional window on their home page before closing time Saturday which made me wonder if traffic was slow for that sale, which if true would really surprise me. That was a sweet price on a full-size Peterson in any finish. PC does some amazing sales, to my ole Scottish eyes. Twenty bucks for a Stanwell, forty bucks for a full-size Tsuge blast (not currently available, but from the past). I don't think people quite understand the unfinished pipe, like it is somehow less, rather than often a little more. I'll let Forums know how it turns out over time. I'll do a mea culpa or crow a little, depending.

Not to bump this up more often than necessary, now that the sale is over, but I just wanted timt to know that after admiring his fine job on the Savinelli unfinished panel, I got busy and burnished up all my unfinished pipes, from the one 40 years old to recent ones, and as I promised, they came up decisively better than before. They can look kind of matte and smudgy in the process of darkening, but if you keep after them with a good buffing, the improve greatly. timt, thanks for the motivational photo!

Just to report back, I'm having my first smoke in this on-sale Peterson from PC, an unfinished zulu. Though the stem is narrower than most Petes, the pipe is light weight. Also, I believe it is acrylic, not Vulcanite. The stem disappointed me a little, but the briar is good, no fills, with the promised nice big bowl. The bit rests just fine; I'm not having to grip it much. The briar and stem have no unseemly or any other taste of their own, just deliver the taste of the blend. And the weight is like featherweight. So I"m liking the pipe very well. Unlike some unfinished pipes, it does not have that raw lumber look. It is already a pleasant light-bright color, so I think it may darken in an especially attractive way. Let me break it in thoroughly, and if noteworthy, I'll get back on a new thread and not bump this old one. But so far, my report is good. I really think it's a winner. The first blend is C&D Tuggle Hall 965, a little milder than the Dunhill blend with the same number, but well proportioned with nice flavor.
