Not in the position to yet as we rent. We are considering the economics of buying over renting, but I think being able to apply for rehoming a dog is pushing us towards buying one day.

I certainly understand working/hunting/sled dogs have to be of a defined character to do what they do, so buying might be the right source, if they aren't from "puppy mills," commercial operations of dubious repute. With rescues, my method is to spend a long time looking and sitting with animals to get to know their character and behaviors. Not all cats, but many cats, just like me. I can sit down on the ground and let them come to me, and they pick up on my being well trained and apparently trustworthy, so with some animals, my socialization to them is speedy. They really size you up. The current brother Maine Coons latched right onto me. One of them fell asleep with my holding his paw between my fingers in the first half hour.

Hate to be a naysayer but.......... If you are adopting a pet during this covid thing, remember that once you get back to "normal life" after you've been vaccinated or it miraculously ends or something and you go back to work or school you will still have to care for this pet. Lonely dogs are not a good thing.
Also, remember that you may be ok with staying home or 6 ft. away from people but your dog needs socialization. Otherwise you may end up with wanting to return them because they don't behave.

Since we buy food and don't rely on hunting for sustaince we view our dog sololy as our companion and not as any sort of "investment".
