Re: the 500 pipes — it was a 50 year collection, so that’s only about 10 a year. You all know how it is. There’s always another one (or 5 or 10) that catch your eye. What you young uns might find hard to believe is that for many years, it was all purchases from B&Ms. About 10 years ago, I did an article for The Pipe Collector on the pipe scene in New York City in the 1970s. We easily had 10 quality pipe shops just in Manhattan — Wally Frank, Lane, Peterson, Wilke, Connoisseur, Barclay-Rex, De La Concha, Nat Sherman, Arnold’s, and a couple whose names I can’t remember. It was pipe heaven.
