Is this cake starting or is it burning out after 2 smokes?

This is what my bowl looks like after 2 smokes, what’s going on here? Is it burning out or is this normal?

Looks fine to me. The chamber will turn black from smoking. I see no evidence of Charing the wood but your photo is not that detailed.

It’s kind of hard to get detailed pictures with my phone.

The bottom looks normal as well, it's just not had burning tobacco that far down yet.. It will all be black before long.

It was black before, could it just be the bowl coat burning off? It’s a Peterson so it has their bowl coat on it.

The moisture has just probably washed the coating away. If it's a Pete, you'll be fine. Just smoke slowly and keep an eye on it. A burn out is rare but they do occur. A burn out will appear as a charred depression in the chamber. The bottom looks fine, the coating just wore away and your down to natural wood. If the bottom was burning out it would be black and charred.Add the taste of burning wood is very noticeable.

Thank you for your help. I’ve seen the spot before but it usually appears a little darker, not so bright. That’s what concerned me.

You are welcome. If the bottom was burning out it would be black and charred.And the taste of burning wood is very noticeable.

Your probably still tasting bowl coating. If it’s burning out you’ll taste burnt wood. It’s very distinctive.

This is really a relief. It’s one of those Rua spigots. I would have been upset.

If you purchased it new it should be covered against burnout. With normal care of the pipe of course and within their time frame.

Yeah, I’ve only smoked it twice, but everyone’s telling me that’s normal for a couple of smokes.

If your concern is the bottom, it's fine. Smoke it. If you feel a hot spot on the outside or if it starts to discolor set it down,let it cool and photograph the out side for comments. from what I see, it's fine,carry on.
