Is This "Buyable" Today?

I found a tin of Yee Oldie Signey in a storage box, tried it, and like it a lot.

I have ZERO idea how long it was in the closet, or where, when, or how I came by it, though.

I know that Dunhill tobacco has changed makers several times over the years, and the recipes have changed within those.

Is it possible to tell from the tin if it is what can be bought today off the shelf from a retailer like SP.com?

It was discontinued in the Peterson rebranding, no longer available, but there are a few clones of uncertain similarity.

In the UK both Dunhill Ye Olde Signe and 221B Baker Street were disconnect when it went over to Peterson. I don't know if they're available anywhere else.

I picked up a couple tins about 5 years ago and still haven't tried it. Guess I'm still waiting a couple years.

After trying it for the first time, I decided I liked it and bought and traded for quite a few tins. This was long after it had been discontinued. A very nice virginia from the flavor to the tin aroma to the cut and mechanics. I haven't found anything like it, but would be very much interested if something similar ever was produced.

I thought it tasted similar to Elizabethan Mixture (STG version) minus the Perique. It’s been a long time since I’ve had either. Of course you had all the folks that had the original version of Ye Old Sign complaining how it’s nothing like the original but based on its own merits, I thought it was a very nice VA blend. I’ve noticed that ribbon cut VA’s don’t get as much love as VA flakes.

No longer on any retailer's stock list. It was made in Denmark so there isn't much hope that is good as the original. I also liked the stuff.

The sticking point with BAT was use of the Dunhill name. So STG bought everything except the right to use the Dunhill name, bought the blend names, bought the tin art, and they simply continued making the blends on the same production line that they used for making "Dunhill" blends.
Ye Olde Signe's production run was pretty short. It hadn't been part of the STG line up until 2016, when it was announced that STG would be making it late that year.
As for why it, and other blends weren't included in the reboot, your guess is as good as mine, but I would guess it's numbers, not enough profit to qualify for continued production.
As a historical note, Dunhill never made Navy Rolls. That was added to the line up by Murrays.

Manufacturer of Dunhill pipe tobacco moved to Murray around 1981. Murray closed in early 2005. Production then moved to Orlik/STG until 2017 when it stopped for whatever reason (I presume they weren't sufficiently profitable to justify the royalties that had to be paid to use the Dunhill name (Dunhill cigarettes are still sold under that name as a premium product)). In 2019, STG acquired the right to make a few of the old Dunhill pipe blends and started selling them under the Peterson name.

I understand McConnell made one or more Dunhill blends but I don't know which and when. I also understand that the 965 and Nightcap (and others) that used to be sold in bulk in the US were blended by Lane.
