is there such a thing as a peaty flavour tobacco

I'm new to the pipe smoking community and would consider myself a occasional smoker. Over the last year I have been trying a few different makes and blends of tobaccos peterson old Dublin, Dunhill 965 and few aromatics. I love both the 965 and Peterson with the slight camp fire flavour. I also like the occasional scotch and love the strong peaty taste. I was wondering if there are any tobacco blends that can duplicate this flavour? I was reading that some of the Kentucky fire roasted tobaccos can produce a strong smokey flavour? If anyone has any input or must try blends let me know. thanks

I'm no expert in scotch but my father-in-law is and he broke out a bottle of smokey and peaty scotch for Christmas from 1990. My conclusion is that scotch tastes like crap just like any other whiskey but the peatyness was interesting. Smoke anything with latakia and there ya go. You are not going to be enlightened by some secrete tobacco manufacturer.

You've smoked Peterson Irish Whiskey? It is a little stronger than milk toast, in case you're sensitive to nicotine.

If you like burley, you may well like the Tabac-Manil Semois lasttango suggested. It definitely has an earthy twang. If you aren't a burley lover, the Bothy Flake might be the ticket. You might also explore other whiskey flavored aromatics -- there are a lot of them.

Bothy Flake is good stuff. I've put away mo' that a few tins and hope to put away more before is disappears from the US market.
I wish that it was available in bulk.

Semois is the earthiest tobacco I can think of.

Funny because I associate peaty with iodine and I'm a Scotch drinker. I just like the Scotch from the Highland or Speyside areas which are less peaty and more honeyed.

I can't say I have ever tasted iodine but for me peaty is a woodie taste. If wood had taste lol.

I went and bought several after some forum members put the fear of the "Tobaccolypse" into me. So I am good to go!
I should also add... I learned from some forum members here to use it as a condimental tobacco as well. I like adding it to burley and Virginia blends.
Warning: some people think it's the worst tasting tobacco. It's a love or hate thing. If you end up hating it, you can trade it on the forums... I'd certainly trade for it.

In any case, the members that suggested Bothy Flake are the type of guys that really know their stuff. Far more experienced than I. I'd take their advice before my advice. I haven't tried Bothy Flake, but now I want to.

A guy could introduce the flavor of scotch to tobacco, a number of different ways.
1. Soak a cotton ball or small cloth in the whiskey of choice. Add this to a jar of tobacco and wait a month.
2. Actually add whiskey to the tobacco (soak and press dry with paper towel)- best to heat in the stove after this procedure to fuse the spirit with the leaf. Put the weed in a steel can, add tin foil top and bake @ 200 F for 200 minutes.
3. Add a ration of tobacco to a oak cask that had whisky previously aged in it. (let whiksey rest for a week or two in barrel)
