I can't make the haul to Jersey, but I highly recommend this or any pipe show to Forums members and anyone interested in pipes. You do have to resign yourself to some purchases since going strictly as an observer is a fantasy. You can get a great feel for both factory and artisanal pipes, and you have the license to look and compare and ponder as much as you like, and ask questions, and heft the pipes, and discuss tobaccos and blends. Be sure to pick up business cards on anyone who has interesting merchandise. It's always fun to enter silent auctions and door prize drawings, and there is usually a goody bag offered on the way out. Tobacco sales and tobacco samples are probably limited or verboten at coming shows, but you can still learn a lot from your fellow attendees and exhibitors. Newbies should feel free to ask any and many questions. Rather than thinking you are an outsider, most exhibitors and attendees will be waiting to enlighten you at any length you care to listen, as long as you make way for other potential customers as necessary. These events are entirely relaxed. Usually there is a price break on everything and occasional breathtaking deals on artisanal pipes. This is a half-day activity at minimum, and if you can stay or come back for most of the day, you will probably find it worthwhile. A pipe show is probably the equivalent of six months or a year of gathering information other ways.
