Definitely not. Obviously, this suggests that he smoked both dry and moist tobacco. I'm not saying that tobacco was always dried in the 19th century, so that people never smoked moist tobacco, just that drying it isn't something totally new. Even today in Brazil, it's common for some people to start smoking rope tobacco in their pipe one night and come back to smoke it the next day, when it's drier.

It has never bothered me that some people prefer wet, steamy smokes. But, it only makes sense to me that drying it, makes it less steamy, so that I can taste it better. Historically, I couldn't give less fuck what some dead hacks used to do.
They also used to drink mercury and never bathed. You guys can keep your historical ways. puffy

If you’ve got A/C going, put a flake out near the vent. Flakes are usually heavy enough not to be blown away.

I do this in my truck when I’m camping in the summertime.
