I thought it was my pipe doing it's imitation of a baby!
Just kidding. That was a great idea for a post and very informative. I didn't even know all that stuff. You know your stuff Bob. Thanks!

Hi. I have smoked apipe from time to time for about a year now and am becoming more serious about it. I started with a cheap Dr. Grabow and it has turned out to be a pretty good little pipe. I am in the process of building up a rotation so I bought a couple of used pipes because they are cheap (and its just to get started!). One of them was THOROGHLY cleaned when I got it and it gurgles. Here's a dumb question- Do I need to Re-break it in?

That's not a dumb question at all. If the person who restored/cleaned the pipe reamed the cake all the way back down to wood; Yes, you need to break it in again. Breaking in a pipe is just building up cake in the bowl to protect the wood.
Also, even if they did not ream all of the cake back to the wood, sometimes if there is only minimal cake in the bowl, the pipe will sometimes gurgle. But you have to remember that other things will make a pipe gurgle. Check the construction on the pipe as well.
Don't let a gurgle get you down though, just swab it with a cleaner and keep smoking!

I got a Petersen that gurgles because the tennon doesnt reach the end of the inside of the shank which creates a shelf or chamber that the condensation builds up in. i have tried a steady blow to get it to go through the draft hole to the tobacco but it doesnt work, i have also tried tipping the pipe around and some times it goes down the draft hole. is there maybe something i can do to fill the chamber that is on this pipe?
