Curious if STG has listened to the complaints and made any changes to their Sir Walter Raleigh production.

Anyone tried this recently? Does it still reek/taste like vinegar?

SWRA tastes fine to me, I have a pouch of regular SWR, haven't touched it in a while, but it should be good now if it's anything like SWRA. When I first opened my SWRA pouch, it had a medicinal kind of taste (in a bad way) that faded after a while. I think it sat in the cabinet for a month or two after initial opening, just closed pouch, no jarring or anything special and when I dipped back in, it was fine, still wet as the day I opened it, but the medicine taste was gone.

I can't imagine SWR would be any different, should dip in again, no clue now how long my pouch has been in there.

I have had other, usually VA blends, that had a vinegary taste at first open. If it let it sit for a month (in the original tin or packaging) after initial opening, the vinegar aspect seems gone.

The last 7oz can I opened was completely tainted. I think I bought it around 2 years ago, though. Left it for a while and it was still nasty and sour smelling.

People were freaking out about Prince Albert and Carter Hall production being moved to DR, but look what STG did to Sir Walter.

Same here. Had to throw out a 7 once can that reeked of vinegar. It has been a while since I had the good stuff, but I think OJK Blue is a good substitute, at least to my dull palette.

It has been my experience SWR regular greatly benefits from aging.

But then again I’m a die hard fan of Rouseco Buoy Gold, as well.:)

It’s supposed to taste fermented.
I suspect you haven’t tried the new and improved SWR. If you want to experience it, take a can of the old SWR and pour a cup of apple cider vinegar in and let it age for a while. 😂

Edit… @Briar Lee I understand what you are saying, but it has to be experienced to understand just how bad it is. I opened the can of the new stuff and was hit with sinus stinging, eye watering vinegar. It didn’t even smell like tobacco in the least. Others are reporting the same. It is really terrible.

The new SWR vinegar bath does not dissipate.
