The digitization of everything is an Orwellian dream for the social engineers. Censorship will be much easier when everything can be edited and controlled electronically.

The day when I can't smell the book I'm reading, or feel my pencil bite into a scetch pad will be the day I am ready to die.

"On last thing to keep in mind............there has never been a tree cut down in the history of mankind, to create paper. Paper is a waste by-product of the lumber mills constituting saw dust, scraps and the leafy crap at the top of trees that is no good for building lumber."
Except that isn't true. I've been to paper mills for work, and seen the acres of pulp logs.

There used to be an alternative to using trees...until the anti-free market monopolists such as DuPont and Citizen Kane eliminated it.

I read most of my books on Kindle (mainly because when I travel it is only the Kindle for many, many books) and I have to enter orders at the hospital into what is in the vernacular called physician order entry (computer order entry). BUT I have had the same fountain pen for more than 20 years with which I write thank you notes (how quaint!) and sign all other paper work. Still proud of my signature, still get odd looks when I use a fountain pen, and never, ever lend it to anyone (well maybe once in a while to my wife when I am standing right there to retrieve it)...

On a side note, my recent Kaywoodie Churchwarden acquisition was originally owned by the Opeations Manager for Gladfelter Paper in PA...
I still have to have my newspaper, coffee, and pipe in the morning. I read books on a Kindle Paperwhite, but I could not adapt to newspapers or magazines on a Fire. I still buy/use Post-it by the truck load...
Now, off to smoke my morning pipe with paper..

This guy may have been the president of Glatfelter. The caption info isn't attached to the file anymore, so I don't really know.
A dresser drawer, left unopened for 40 years....wow.

I recently had to hire some domestic help for when I am on the road. She only wanted payment by check. I have not had a checkbook for about 7 years and I was not buying checks at $25 dollars a box from Chase. I made time to sit down with her and set up electronic payments for her via her bank and iPhone.
As for books, now that airplanes let you use your eReader or iPad from gate to gate it took away the only reason for buying paper books.
