Is It Weird to Repack a Bowl Halfway Through?

I do it sometimes when I’m smoking while working, and have a “regular” blend in my pocket, but not while I’m leisurely enjoying a good pipe.

Mainly I don’t because I still tend to smoke a little wet (constant clencher) and the practice can make mildly damp dottle a sticky goo pit in the heel of the chamber…

If I'm smoking a pipe with a smaller bowl, it is very common for me to put a fresh pinch of tobacco on top as in near the end to extend the smoke. I've been doing that for 40+ years.

I’ve done it a few times to extend a smoke a bit.

it will create extra moisture which can make the bowl sour faster which is cureable but gross. It's fine but getting a larger pipe or just another pipe to smoke afterwards works better.
Like not don't do it, but it does have a cost which isn't that steep but also to me not worth it.

I sometimes smoke two or three bowls through my tiny blowfish pipe. It's the same chamber size as a kiseru those metal japaness pipes. It tolerates that kind of treatment better then my more average sized pipes do.

I do it once in awhile if I pull out more tobacco than will fit in the chamber on my “regular” sized pipes. I’m usually pretty good about eyeballing how much I need, but every so often there will be a little left over. After I’m 90% done with the intitial chamber load I’ll stir the compressed ash, dump, and refill with the excess tobacco that I pulled and let dry. Other times, if I just feel like having another bowl, I’ll just reload the same pipe and keep smoking. But, mostly I prefer smoking the full chamber to the end.

I will reload a cob. I won't reload or top off a briar as they build up more moisture than a cob.
