Are the moderators pulling up all these old threads to keep the page fresh or is someone pulling up all these old threads? I have noticed that about eight of the "new threads" that just pop up were started like a year ago not that it matters just on my quest for useless knowledge!!

No it was me. I am taking advantage of the topics with no replies button and resurfacing posts that look interesting to me, rather than create a new one.
