Yes, though I rarely clench. The important point for me is that I don't want the smoke filtering through my teeth in one spot and staining, so I try to make sure I've got at least one tooth on the bit.

No staining to teeth or lips thus far.
"Try...inserting 'just the tip'." Oldbrush, you are suggesting that I am having issues with my 'method', far from it, it suits me fine so no alternative method is required.

Jay.

Check out matches860 on youtube. He seems to smoke in a similar style as you describe. I personally keep the stem deep in my mouth and clench it with my molars.

Understood. Did you catch any matches860 vids on youtube? Here's one. He actually does put the bit of his pipe in his mouth but only up to his lips:

Hello again Pipeanddrum, yes but he still puts it inside his mouth, mine never enters my mouth, it just fits in between my lips. Never had a problem smoking that way, unless of course you include my inability to use a P-lip stem.
Regards,
Jay.

Denture pain prohibits clenching so I too simply sip on the button of the stem. Sometimes leads to sensitive lips if the tobacco isn't dry enough.
