The burnout guys are a weird one to me. If you're paying any attention at all, you see it happening. Either the bowl is too hot to touch, you get funny flavors, or see the briar starting to discolor. If you see this happening, wouldn't even a dog alter its behavior? Even if you didn't care about the pipe at all, don't you care about the foul taste? I get how quick burnouts happen, like the fabled guys who would smoke while riding their motorcycle and burnout a pipe in a handful of miles, but for the slow burnouts, what's going on there?
Oh yeah I mean tongue bite was the first thing I conquered. And it wasn't much effort as much as just feeling more cautious while smoking and going more gently because ouch. But the guys I know who like smoking like that (like three guys so even in a small group a minority) know they are the cause of the burnout.

I don't want to break your new pipe, and I'm definitely no expert. However, I think a lot of Youtubers and stuff online is nonsense. I always just smoke it right away full. There probably is a small chance it could mess up your pipe ever so minute that it might be. I've never had an issue with the 11 pipes I've owned, and I've always smoked a new pipe all day for weeks I don't even rest them. That's another debate though. Just saying I abuse pipes and haven't broken a bowl. I did have one with a defect but it came that way.

Btw worth noting if this helps; The pipe with the defect is the pipe that brought me here. I was yold to keep the pipe and given a refund. It was odd because it turned black minutes into smoking and then cooled back to normal color. The pipe to this day still smokes and changes colors. I've abused it for a long time now. Some here may remember the pipe. This is the pipe today and second is the pipe the day I got it. You can see it still cools back to semi normal. But, goes to show how hard even a defected pipe can be pushed.

I always break my pipes in with a full bowl. If after several smokes there is not much cake in the bottom third I will them smoke a full bowl very loosely packed so that I do indeed burn tobacco all the way to the bottom. Typically this will be in a larger pipe where I do not always make it to the end of the bowl.
