Have a few tins of Haunted Bookshop that are unopened and am tidying up my cellar. I’m not sure if it’s better to crack them and put them in mason jars or leave them unopened. My thought would be the latter.

All tins are different but 100% leave those C&D tins unopened. The tobacco is sealed in a can that actually pops open like a can of beer and they're completely airtight.
If you haven't popped the seal, leave them in the tin.
It's a do at your own risk either way. Tobacco manufacturers never intended long term storage for their products.
Yes Gawith tins have a bad rap, I’ve heard either way on them, followed by round flat metal tins being better, followed by those foil sealed tall round tins being the best.
If you like jars, you could get a big jar and put the unopened tin inside the jar and seal it up super tight
I put my square unopened tins into mylar bags just to be safe. Easy insurance. I leave my round 50g tins as they are.
Thanks all for your advice. I popped a sealed tin of some 2022 Regent Flake last night only to find out it has become a mold garden…. Looked like someone stuck a cotton ball in there…. What could have caused this?
I prefer to keep the tin sealed, rather than open and transfer to another recipient. And when the time comes to consume it, if it's good great, if it's bad, I'll send it to hell, then I'll start with push-ups, pull-ups, a cold shower, with a shot of whiskey, while singing a Bob Dylan song.

Well, seriously now. Glass is a good choice because it is such a clean material, easy to disinfect, resistant to changes in temperature, humidity, etc., “aseptic”. Perhaps it is a good option, to avoid risks, for problems of humidity, and time of conservation, tins that can oxidize over the years. Another thing, is that the tobacco comes with spores, or other factory problems. However, I am lazy when it comes to changing kilos and kilos of tobacco, buying glass jars, etc.
Contact the shop you purchased the tin at. You should be able to receive a replacement.
Do you know if the shop gets reimbursed by the distributor or C&D if you return a moldy tin? I would hate to burden the tobacco shop with that expense if they are not reimbursed. It’s not the shop’s fault.
This is an ongoing debate. I choose both! I will leave blends in the original tins for 5 years or so, but any longer than that I like to transfer to jars. That being said, I'm also lazy about it. I have been spending time lately transferring old tins to jars and I can tell you that there were tins dating back to 2016. I haven't seen a single problem with any of them, so I'm debating with myself whether is it worth it to change them over. I have a stack of old Dunhill Ye Olde Sign tins that I'm considering leaving alone. I did see a tiny bit of rust on a few tins, but even then it was UNDER the paper liner, so not in contact with the tobacco so, again, not really an issue.
I've broken down a number of 8oz. tins to put 2oz into 4 mason jars as I know I'll have the blends for a long time. This way I'm not opening up 8oz in 10 years, and only doing 2 at a time as I smoke them.

If it’s a 50g tin (as opposed to one of HU’s 100g tins) I usually add a layer of Saran Wrap after smoking the first bowl and reseal it in the original tin as opposed to jarring it. I find this keeps it fresh for at least a year after opening.

I have had really bad luck with the SPC/Sutliff tins. They are larger than most and have a cardboard sides. They rust out quick. I'd jar those right away.
