Louisiana (Chocolate) Flake is quite an inspired creation; chocolate and perique really works well. I have some to hand, dip into it occasionally if I'm feeling glum, cheers me up.
Most of them have been processed for nasal snuff and RYO at this point.@Chasing Embers : 250g boxes you say? I would watch out for the drone with a grappling hook floating around outside your smoking area Duane as you might get raided by Jim Inks!![]()
Interesting. This is one of my favorite G&H blends, but since I don't normally read tobacco reviews, and I never tasted chocolate in it, I was kind of stunned when I looked up the reviews and saw 'cocoa/chocolate flavoring'. I read more of the reviews and saw where some people said the Lakeland or baby powder flavor was way over the top, covering the tobacco flavor. I'm still scratching my head, as I always find the VA to be very evident and fresh, with not so much perique and almost zero Lakeland or other flavors.Louisiana (Chocolate) Flake is quite an inspired creation; chocolate and perique really works well. I've noticed an alert after about an hour and it was all gone by then. Can't remember which blend but it was but it would've been either Medium Flake or Brown Flake. Those 2 and Rich Dark Flake & Gold Leaf R/R are the ones that are a nightmare to get hold of. The other Germain's blends (especially the ones with Latakia in) are much easier to get hold of.I'm not sure that Esoterica is only apparently in short supply - certainly, in the UK, their blends only seem to be available in fits and starts, although some think that the Chinese are getting first dibs on their popular blends. All of them go out of stock fairly regularly; some are only in stock for a day at most and then gone again for months.
The Gawiths, rather more constant in availability.
Same with Bob's Chocolate Flake for me. It's one of my favorite blends, but I'm not sure I would pick out the chocolate without knowing.Interesting. I guess it doesn't matter if I'm wrong, as long I enjoy it - which I have been many years.
I've only used Bob's Chocolate for blending. There was a period where it was hard to get, so I tried Cherry Cream and liked it better. It's been years - I can't remember if I actually tasted the chocolate.Same with Bob's Chocolate Flake for me. I get the Virginias, the Burley, a bit of the Latakia, and definitely can taste the sause. But tasting chocolate, maybe. Over the years I've talked myself into tasting dark coco...possibly. I get more vanilla and what I call roasted nuts.
Either way, it's one I refuse to live without.
Also one of my fav GH blends. I'd concur that the perique is not top heavy (which is why I like it). The chocolate isn't obvious either, when you smoke it. But take a good sniff of the jar, you should be able to easily detect the chocolate. You may then get hints of it when you smoke it, albeit only very subtle hints.Interesting. They were included in a gift from a member on the old pipes forum. oh back in 2003 i think.Same with Bob's Chocolate Flake for me.
