I just got an email from Iwan Ries that Pembroke tins were available (to those who had signed up for email notification). I'm wondering if this is a one time thing or is Esoterica starting to be available again like it was last winter?

When I was into snagging bags of gold I’d be in the know about ESO drops. Now, that I’ve moved on from chasing the stuff things have changed. But, the methods are still the same. I’d not waste too much time with the big online retailers. Building relationships with B&Ms local & not so local is the key to snagging your droppings. ?☕
Exactly! And I like your imagery of snagging/chasing bags of gold :) Thanks for the grins.

The silence in the thread likely means everyone is scouring the interwebz trying to find the golden ticket to Willy Wonka's Oompa Loompa blends ;)

@AroEnglish Esoterica is a brand, produced for the US market only by J.F. Germain's, a small independent British manufacturer. They also produce a few more brands. Apparently the production is low because they are in a happy spot where anything they make is sold out in microparsecs, so they see no need to make more.

Why is Esoterica production so low? Are they an independent company like McClelland was or are they owned by someone like C&D?
They are a 200 year old family owned business, and a rather small one at that. They crank out their blends in the old tradition, using ancient equipment on the Isle of Jersey.

Some people think they are a family of gnomes, mining tobacco blends from deep within the earth, but any sane person would know that that is baloney. They're elves, sourcing their blends from a small magical spring that must be allowed to replenish after use. Therefore, their output is limited and they have to wait until their magic spring is fully replenished before they produce more.

I always think of them as a family of harpies setting around the kitchen table mixing things up and slapping them into tins while listening to Brittney Spears and drinking un-sweetened Tang from old Mason Jars where they stored the component tobaccos. puffy

I heard they throw handfuls of seaweed in every batch, for that salty nori essence common across quite a few of their blends. Also heard they were sylphs who feed on the burnt herbs in every tin and Willy Wonka bag.

I’ve always had better luck finding Esoterica at my local B&M. I’ve only had two, And So To Bed and Penzance. Didn’t care much for ASTB. I still have a few ounces of Penzance in a jar. I know I’m speaking pipe tobacco heresy here but I think Quiet Nights is much better and is readily available.

Quiet Nights is very similar to me. Penzance has that Germain-ness and is obviously well-aged out of the tin. Hunting Quiet Nights is so much easier.

I’ve gotten lucky recently with numerous tins of solani ABF and a smattering of SG (including FVF, which I’ve been anxiously awaiting). Totally missed out on the recent eso drops, despite this still content with the recent acquisitions. Are drops common this time of year? Seems like a lot has been coming around over the last month.

I don't chase the stuff either. I got a call from a B&M I do business with asking if I'd be interested in getting some. Like you said, build relationships with the local guys.
